I TELL STORIES USING TEXTILES AS MY ART MEDIUM…
My name is Larysa Bernhardt and I’m textile artist. Textile sculptures I create are shy creatures, naive and nostalgic. They’re night dwellers and story tellers. I source fabrics all over the world and when they come, sometimes smelling of coffee and spices, sometimes of old books and lavender, well, I know there’s a story.
At the end, we all become stories.
“All stories are also the stories of hands — picking up, balancing, pointing, joining, kneading, threading, caressing, abandoned in sleep, cutting, eating, wiping, playing music, scratching, grasping, peeling, clenching, pulling a trigger, folding.”
John Berger
…hearts we touch, flowers we cut, trees we plant, tears we wipe, wounds we heal, oceans we embrace. Stretch out, touch flowers with one hand, stars with the other. Everything becomes a story, and all of them are stories of our hands.
it’s all about me (rarely)
I've been sewing as long as I can remember, but it's not the only thing I do.
In this journal you will find more about me, my family and my pets, what inspires me and what everyday life on the farm looks like (I give you a hint - it's never boring)
